There is a lot of love about this vacation rental. The location was across the street from the beach and only a short walk to Gulf. The layout was perfect for our group. Using the downstairs apartment as two bedrooms, there was room for the six of us to have our own rooms. There were plenty of tables and counter space for us to have room for all kinds of activities. There were plenty of towels provided, and the linens were pretty and seemed clean.
The air conditioning worked in the main part of the house so well that the windows cried. The bigger beds were comfortable, but the bunks and beds downstairs were not. When we arrived, the master bathroom floor smelled of bleach. We shouldn’t have assumed that meant the place was clean. There were Doritos and sand ground in the carpets/rugs. The doors can be set up to lock automatically and without the need for keys. Unfortunately, they were broken.
The front door did not lock safely. Even when it appeared locked, one good shove and it popped open.
This lack of maintenance and broken items continued to be a theme for the weekend. The electric can opener did not operate, neither did the regular can opener, the coffee pots, bathroom timers, some blinds, the Keurig, the sink sprayer, or the shower in the extra bathroom (It sprayed water hard enough to bruise your feet). The air conditioner in the bedroom down below did not keep the room cool overnight.
There were also some significant safety concerns. We posed to take a group photo on the deck and found the railing on the landing was loose. One good shove and the group would have fallen half a floor onto sharp oyster shells. Multiple nails on the deck and stairs were sticking up to a quarter of an inch, begging to take the skin off the bottom of feet. In the pool area, the deck had warped and started to pull the nails out. Step carefully, especially if you like to go barefoot. Also, watch the gate for the pool if you have children; it was rusted and did not latch properly. We hope the pool is cleaner for you than it was for us. There was debris on the deck and in the pool, but the pool net was broken.
One of our group (front left bedroom) had a bedroom door that let out onto the deck facing the street. Unfortunately, the door did not lock even when we followed the instructions. We contacted Jerry, who responded quickly. He said someone would come fix it, they did not. Scary.
By the way, the hot tub jets were blocked & didn't work. Gross.
