Black Bear Cabin made for an easy stay- it was well appointed, had plenty of towels, blankets, kitchen items, etc. The view is exceptional and the fire pit was wonderful. The host had plenty of kindling and firewood available, though we had already brought our own. There are some beautiful horses that reside in the pasture to the rear of the house.
However, there were some drawbacks that could really make or break your trip, depending on what you are seeking. I was seeking quiet, and the noise from the main road was intense- just not something I was expecting given the distance from the road and tree cover. Sometimes it sounded like a NASCAR race. This should absolutely have been disclosed in the property listing, because it was definitely a big bummer for us. Every time we used the master bathroom shower, an intense smell of sewage greeted us for hours after. The sliding doors to the bedrooms looked nice, but were very flimsy, leading to a lot of sound travel and our dog nosing his way into my in-laws' bedroom frequently. The 3rd bedroom is not an actual bedroom- there is a bed in there, but the room is not big enough for anything other than going in there to sleep.
This is a great and convenient place to stay if you are looking to take advantage of all the activities in and around Berkeley Springs, but if you were hoping to go to enjoy nature and quiet, this is not the listing for you.
