Good Base to Explore Amalfi
We had a great stay at Villa Mille and would recommend it to others.
Our group of 5 consisted of my wife and 1.5 year old son, in-laws and sibling. There was more than enough room for everyone to be comfortable.
Yes, it is true there are 180 steps from street level to the Villa. A porter is available to take your luggage to the top. You get used to the stairs, but if you are not physically able and in reasonable shape this is not the place for you.
The bus stop is a 5 minute walk from the base of the stairs with frequent departures to Amalfi (10-15 minute drive). In Amalfi you can get on a ferry to explore the coast. Be warned that the bus and ferry services stop around 7 pm and that taxi rides are very expensive (example:150 euro from Positano to the Villa).
There is a bar just past the bus stop that is great for a drink or snack with an amazing view. The grocery store and main restaurants are a 15 - 20 minute walk from the bottom of the stairs. The grocery store will deliver groceries to the Villa upon request, and the restaurant Le Bonta del Capo provides a free shuttle service.
Overall, it was a great place to stay. The only reason that I did not give it a full 5 stars was due to several minor factors, none of which would stop me from staying there again. The lights on the terrace did not work, the drain in the master bath was clogged, some dirty dishware, the bathrooms smelled a bit - par for the course in Europe.
