I had thought about leaving a bland “this place is good” type review, however those are all the reviews that I read when booking this place, and wish I had some more honest input given the price. The place is in a great location. There was awesome communication up until the actual rental started, and the owner even reimbursed us for some purchases when we said we wanted beach chairs! It was looking to be a really great trip. Upon arrival, the cleaning crew / house manager was there (we arrived a little early). We were then informed that the toilet on the second floor was broken. At first I thought no big deal, they said it would be fixed in a day. The toilet was covered with a black trash bag, which just felt a bit gross, but we still were excited. We then realized that half of the stove burners weren’t working, and the ovens were quite unpredictable. Additionally, there was old food in the stove knobs, crusted in there, and it was clear no one had really made an attempt to clean them. I contacted the house manager and she continued to respond regarding the toilet, but did not address the stove / oven issue. The house was also extremely hot. This is July in Chicago, and the AC really only works on the 3rd floor. And even then, the small top room with bunk beds got zero air flow and was unbearably hot. The other room up there was freezing due to us trying to crank the air to keep the rest of the house cool. The AC never really reached the 2nd or 1st floors, so we constantly repositioned the one fan that was in the house depending on where we were. The back room of the kitchen was an obvious extension, which was fine, but again it was so hot it was hard to be in there. That is where the tv is, and many of the tv hookups weren’t connected and we struggled to be able to watch anything (even when trying to log into our own apps). The sofa and chair were quite disgusting with stains and hair all over them. We had planned to cook multiple meals & were unable to do so. lack of response from the property manager regarding the state of the kitchen was quite frustrating. The house itself is old, which we had expected, but it doesn’t appear to have been maintained given the state of the kitchen and bathrooms. At one point the property manager asked us if we left the water running because the basement was flooded. We hadn’t. But they insisted they had to come in. During that time, neither the kitchen nor bathroom / toilet situation were addressed.
