Outstanding!
We came for a 50th bday friends trip. The guys wanted to fish and the girls wanted to hang out. This place fit the bill. Unfortunately the river was abnormally high and running too fast to fish but there was a small "lake" down the street that the guys really enjoyed. Salida is an awesome mountain town, great shops, good walking town, and very friendly people. It was wonderful having a bathroom in every bedroom, although we found that the downstair shower was our favorite. Be advised that only the upstairs bedrooms have AC (window units), it can get warm downstairs even with the windows open but as the sun starts going down the temp cools off inside as well. The house had everything we needed for cooking meals. Shae, the host, was exceptional and communicated often and easily. We loved the Poor Farm, inside and out!

Beautiful home
This home was perfect for our family with each bedroom having a private bath on 2nd floor & the living area & kitchen is perfectly located on 1st floor. The kitchen was stocked with dishes so we could cook meals. We loved the "sonic ice machine" & use of a dishwasher. When we had a question the owners were fast to respond. Perfect location and property.

Perfect weekend retreat
Beautiful property with all the lovely amenities and so many thoughtful touches. Oozes with character and a bit of mystery. Very comfortable for relaxing, cooking, cold plunging in the river! Would definitely recommend for extended family vacay or friend groups as all bedrooms have an en suite. Host was attentive and accommodating.

A great escape
Beautifully decorated & maintained historical home in an epic Colorado setting. Our group had the best long weekend spending time together at the Poor Farm, walking around by the river, dining & shopping in Salida, and visiting the nearby hot springs and ghost town. The fire pit and game room are just the icing on the cake!

Amazing location for a group of friends
This is the perfect spot for a quiet getaway with a group of friends. 5 bedrooms with their own en suite full bathrooms is AMAZING. The kitchen is big, well-equipped, and open to the bright, large dining room. Loads of space to spread out across two living rooms. All beautifully decorated and chic. The location on the river is nice but it isn't walkable to anything, if that's important to you. We ended up scrapping our plans to go anywhere because we had so much food and such a lovely place to hang out! Hosts definitely have this down to a science. Nice toiletries, coffee, and a pellet ice maker (!!!) are just some of the perks of staying here. They're also very communicative and kind. I will definitely recommend this property and come back for future weekends away!

Bachelor Weekend
We had a fantastic weekend. 6 friends and I stayed at the property for three nights, cooked great food, and took advantage of all the mountain activities. The house was incredible and amazing that each bedroom had its own spacious bathroom! It is about 3 miles outside of downtown Salida but that's kind of what we were looking for. Communication with Shae was so easy and she responded to any questions very quickly. Highly recommend this property.

Utter Perfection
A group of dear, long term friends and I gathered for 3 nights at the Poor Farm and it was better than we could have ever imagined. The space suited us perfectly... we cooked family meals and cleaned dishes together in the beautiful kitchen, played games and read books (and tried to create life stories for the historical portraits) in the sitting room(s), had coffee and silly tarot readings in the dining room, belly laughs by the fire, full moon and lightning viewings from the front porch, cold plunges in the river, warm ups in the sauna, and the ability to get away from each other and have our own space to sleep in the gorgeous upstairs bedrooms :) It was such a special time for those of us who have moved away or don't get to see each other as often as we used to in the ideal setting. So grateful to Shae and Brady for the work they put into this space for others to enjoy!! I hope we can return every year... or just live there permanently :)

Haute Spot
A few friends get together every couple of years. We're all big skiers and wanted to meet up in a beautiful, peaceful spot with accessibility to a ski hill. We love Salida, CO and the search started from there. I identified a few options, one close to Monarch Ski Resort, another in Poncha Springs and this. The prices varied, with this being on the higher end of our budget, but in hindsight it was the right call. As the ringleader, I made it clear that we're going "big". Meaning, you have your own room vs. crashing with your stinky, snoring buddy as was the case two years ago. The pictures do this place justice, but when we arrived it was even more magnificent. High ceilings, hardwoods, fully stocked kitchen, sauna and chiminea outside. TV and game room, several sitting areas and large kitchen table. The time we didn't spend at the mountain and hot springs, we intended to spend in Salida. But after sinking in to this incredible spot, we decided to lay low in our temporary palace. The hosts were super helpful and communicate well. We highly recommend this!

Everything was perfect. Great house for our group of 8. House had very comfortable beds and bathrooms. The sitting areas downstairs are great for playing board games or just sitting and visiting. The ultimate family getaway
We spent the weekend here with our two families celebrating a special occasion and it was dreamy. The whole property is stunning, we loved hanging out by the river and seeing the sunrise/sunset on the surrounding mountains, and the home is gorgeous, spacious enough to comfortably house 9 of us with ample amenities and wonderful hosts.

Wonderful Memories Made
We spent a week with our young adult children at this beautiful property and home. The space is conducive for both privacy and gathering. It was immaculately clean. The beds were very comfortable and our family appreciated the luxury of each couple having their own bathroom. The kitchen was so well equipped for cooking. The hosts were kind and responsive to our questions. They provided terrific tips for dining, outdoor activities, and shopping. The stars were amazing, along with sunrise and sunset views. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit, sauna, board games, interesting books, decorations and history of this beautiful home. It was fun to watch folks rafting and kayaking on the river and my husband has good luck with flyfishing. One of a kind place. Don't miss out on booking this beautiful experience.

Stayed at the Poor Farm house just outside of downtown Salida for a week with my family (total 10 adults, youngest 27 years old). The entire property was well maintained and the owner was responsive to any questions we had. The house is impressively decorated, with a great selection of books and impressive taxidermy. The beds were very comfortable, and each bedroom has a private full bath. The kitchen and dining area easily accommodate cooking dinner for large groups. Other house highlights included the sauna, game room, and telescope. Location was great - 2 miles from downtown Salida restaurants and grocery, 15 mins from Dvorak Rafting trip into Brown's Canyon, 30 mins from Buena Vista (hike Mt. Princeton), and about an hour to Leadville (e-bike Mineral Belt Trail and hike Mt. Elbert). Would love to return some day.

Has it all!
Perfectly situated just a few miles from Salida. Beautiful home with plenty of space for families, easy river access, indoor and outdoor social areas and stunning views. Hosts were very attentive and the house is set up for comfort. All you need to do is bring groceries and an adventurous spirit. Hiking, biking, Fly Fishing, small town strolls and dining a skip away… Could not recommend more highly for folks looking to unplug and reconnect with the simple pleasures the Salida / BV valley can offer..
