We (two adults and two children) spent two really great weeks here. We were warmly welcomed by Costas, who has a lot to tell about the story of the house. If there are any problems during your stay, Costas or his cousin Pedro (who lives in Kefalas and also rents holiday apartments there) are always available and will take care of you.
The house is really very nice. Lovingly decorated and clean. The view of the sea is wonderful. A special highlight is the pool from which you also have a great view of the sea and the bay of Rethymnon.
In the village itself there are two mini-markets that can be easily reached on foot and are open until late every day. There are also three taverns. So you are well looked after.
There is no sandy beach in the immediate vicinity of Kefalas, but you can be in a beautiful small bay (Omprogialos) in 5 minutes by car, where you can swim from a stone platform. Tip: after 7 p.m. we were almost always there alone.
If you want to escape the tranquility of the village, a trip to Chania or Rethymnon is worthwhile.
If you want to take an unconventional boat tour, Costa's cousin Pedro is in very good hands. It was really a great experience for our boys (11 and 13). He drives with his guests to a few bays and caves that can only be reached from the water. In between, there is always a stop and you have the opportunity to swim or snorkel from the boat. Really interesting to recommend us very much.
We have been to Crete for the second time and the impression of our first trip was more than confirmed: the Cretans are simply incredibly hospitable people. We felt very, very comfortable.
